Suit Up!

Or Tux Up!

Sorry, too soon? I'm still in HIMYM denial for many reasons.  Let's not talk about it.

Obligatory excuses for being MIA: big, important projects going on at work + so much wedding stuff in progress, but I'm not really in a place to write about all of it just yet.

Alright, that's out of the way.  We're definitely down into the exciting pre-wedding days now.  I was thrown the most fabulous bridal shower this past weekend and my bachelorette party is quickly approaching!  That means that I'm full on things to do and low on time, but I'm making sure to document the important stuff so that I can share everything with you guys.  For now, let's talk about something that I haven't touched on before: what the guys are wearing.

Honestly, it was pretty easy to get to our decision here.  We're having a nighttime, formal wedding in a church so the natural solution was to go with tuxes.  I see the benefits of buying a tux, if it'll turn out about the same price, but for us a rental is what most of the guys would be comfortable with and that's what we're doing.

Once we decided on renting the tuxes, we had to figure out a style.  While picking tuxes is significantly simpler than choosing dresses, there are several options out there nice options for the guys to make sure everyone is comfortable and looks great.  I really love the look of grey tuxes or suits, but it wasn't the right fit for our wedding.

We also considered the ivory dinner jacket with black pants and black bow tie.  Sphinx stood in his cousin's wedding (BM Skittles) and they used this exact look.  To be honest, I was a little worried about the white jacket thing since I'd never seen it on a wedding party before, but I was really impressed with how great it turned out!  We considered stealing the idea, since it looked so fresh and was a little bit different, but overall I think this looks better at an outdoor ceremony like Skittles had.

We did go ahead and steal the tux shop that Skittles used, since Sphinx described that tux as "the best fitting rental ever," and the other groomsmen agreed.  From what I was told, the guys at Rome's Tuxedos were very detailed and made sure that all of the tuxes fit just right before heading out of the shop, which meant switching the size of Sphinx's jacket so that it would fit better when he went to pick up.  Just really great service all around, and they have a good selection with decent prices.  He's also had great experience renting tuxedos from Rome's for a few Mardi Gras balls.  Sphinx describes himself as very brand loyal, and in this case he wanted to stay loyal to the tux shop that's treated him right.

Even with considering these options, for our wedding, the groomsmen and groom will be wearing traditional  black tuxes, with a slim fit cut.

So excited to be taking pictures in the tux shop, can't you tell?
Since this visit, Sphinx has decided to go with black bow ties, and we'll be pairing it with a black vest, like he's modeling here.

We're skipping bouts since our florist said most people are these days and I didn't have any strong feelings either way.  We'll be doing pocket squares instead - white for Sphinx and gold for the groomsmen.

Boring black tux? We're going to go with classic instead.

Did your guys pick black attire or did they mix it up and pick a different color?

P.S. I'm so sorry about sucking with comment replies lately!  I definitely haven't fully adjusted to the new site layout over here.  All of your comments are so very appreciated, and I am especially grateful for all of the excellent advice about what to do in Hawaii!  We'll be sorting through your ideas and trying to cram as much island awesomeness as we can into nine days.
